Drone Flies Inside Tesla's Berlin GigafactoryDrone footage captures the efficient intricacy inside Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin. The two-minute video gives a rare peek inside the swanky new facility. The company responsible for the footage is Skynamic, the same drone company that posted Elon Musk’s new dance video with a drone. The clip begins the outside of the factory, where rows of Tesla vehicles are parked. It then carefully and skillfully swoops through a door inside the factory and proceeds to fly through the tight assembly lines. The seamlessness of the drone’s move suggests that a capable drone pilot is in control of the device. Many are impressed by the drone’s flexible moves around the assembling robot’s arms.#drone #Tesla #Gigafactory #Skynamic #Berlin
Microrobot Drone Weighs less than a Penny and Can Fly Around with Bug-Like AgilityOne problem that scientists encountered when it came to creating tiny robots was the need for their soft actuators to have higher voltages than rigid actuators that were similar in size. Recently, researchers from MIT may have found a solution to this problem.Using a new fabrication technique, the researchers were able to build soft actuators that only needed 75% lower voltage while carrying 80% more payload. Using these soft actuators that act like muscles that make the robot's wings fly, the MIT researchers have created these tiny drones, each the size of an insect, with the speed and toughness comparable to a real bug.The tiny robots in question are rectangular microbots that weigh less than one-fourth a penny. These robots could prove to be useful in pollinating plants, and when searching for survivors in collapsed buildings.Image Credit: Chen et al. via MIT News#Microbots #Robot #Technology #Electronics #Robotics #drone
Apple Drone by Tevel Works Day and Night to Help Farmers Harvest Fruits from TreesThis drone was not made by Apple. It’s for apples, though.Tevel Aerobatics Technologies created a special drone for fruit farmers. The apple drone is a contraption that can pick up fruits and drop them off at a collection device or container. The flying tethered quadcopter is equipped with an outstretched arm attached that allows it to be a great help during harvesting season. Tevel’s drone is a way of automating fruit harvesting. The company came up with the idea of using multiple drones at the same time. The drones would be tethered to a central machine that provides unlimited power to each drone as they plucked apples from multiple locations on a farm. The apple drones have sensors and cameras that determine if a fruit is ready for picking and knowing where they should place them. Image credit: Tevel Aerobotics Technologies Ltd.#apple #fruits #harvesting #automation #machinery #technology #drone #TevelAerobaticsTechnologies
For the First Time in Medical History, a Drone Carrying a Defibrillator Saved a Man Suffering From a Heart AttackFor the first time in medical history, a drone played a significant role in saving the life of a 71-year-old man suffering from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The patient was shoveling snow in his driveway when he suffered cardiac arrest. Luckily, Dr. Mustafa Ali was there to help. Three minutes after contacting Sweden's emergency number, the defibrillator arrived with a drone.Everdrone’s Emergency Medical Aerial Delivery service (EMADE) is designed to deliver help as soon as possible. This unique achievement took place on the morning of December the 9th of 2021. All Images: Everdrone#Drone #Medical #LifeSaver
Using a Drone to Change a Light BulbHow do you change an overhead light bulb without borrowing a ladder? I have a 12-foot telescoping pole with multiple attachable tools that can do it, but that's not nearly as cool as using a drone! This one has a camera so that the operator can line up the bulb to the outlet properly. The danger is in getting the drone rotors too close to the fixture, which could have wrecked the drone, the bulb, and the camera all at once.
NOAA Sailed a Robotic Surfboard Drone Into the Strongest Storm on EarthHurricane Sam is currently the strongest storm on the planet, carrying strong sustained winds of 145 mph. It is indeed a terrifying force of nature, and airplanes and ships should avoid it. But this vessel from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) not only did not move away from the hurricane, but it also sailed inside it to record some footage. But don't worry. This is an uncrewed Saildrone vessel, so no lives were lost during its stay inside the hurricane. The data gathered from the vessel will help forecasters learn more about storms and improve forecast models. Now that's intense.Axios still has more to say about this research. China's New Undersea Manta Ray DroneChina has a new undersea drone, and it looks like a manta ray.Chinese researchers from a university with strong ties to their military have tested this new drone earlier this month. The manta ray drone has quite a few fascinating qualities. For one, it is yellow and unmanned. But its most fascinating quality is how it mimics a real manta ray. According to Xinhua, the official state newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, the drone can "flap its wings and slide underwater" just like the actual animal.China has yet to confirm whether the drone will be used for defense applications. The drone, after all, has the potential to be used to spy on other countries while blending in with aquatic life.(All Images: Xinhua)#Drone #NewTechnology #MantaRay #BioMimicking
These Amazing Aerial Photographs are Winners of the Drone Photo Awards 2021From thousands of pink-footed geese meeting the winter to a large power plant emitting smoke in the background, the winners of this year's Drone Photo Awards show things that we don't usually see on the ground. Ironically, while the photos look definitely beautiful as one looks with the right perspective at the right time, the stories behind some shots could rather be heartbreaking.Image Credit:The Great Divide by Janessa Anderson
The FPV Drone: Seeing The World Like A BirdThis is what diving from Angel Falls in Venezuela looks like. And no. This footage is not 3D-rendered animation. This is real footage. Yes. This kind of footage is now possible thanks to First Person View (FPV) drones.Ellis van Jason, the videographer who filmed the Angel Falls shot, describes the experience as being like a bird. “You can fly wherever you want.”While the footage produced by the FPV drones istruly breathtaking, it is a costly stunt for the videographer, as there is a possibility that he might lose his drone in the process. This is why Ellis, as well as his student, Julio, advise those who like to give FPV drones a shot to understand the technicalities of the drone, as well as practice flying the drone through simulations.(Image Credit: CNN)#Drone #Photography #DronePhotography #Videography #DroneVideography #Film #FPVDrone #EllisVanJason #AngelFalls #waterfall #Venezuela
Introducing The Cyclocopter: A Drone That Flies On A Different DesignThe cyclogyro is an idea conceived in 1909. It would take a few decades before the idea would turn into reality, with its first flight happening in the 1930s. Unfortunately, when scientists realized that the cyclogyro is too unstable for a human to pilot, the idea was shelved, and scientists would only begin to explore the idea again in recent years. Thanks to today’s technology, researchers are now able to create small-scale versions of the cyclogyro — or as it is now known, the cyclocopter. In this video, Nicholas Rehm demonstrates the capabilities of his small-scale cyclocopter, and he explains the concepts behind its flight.Unfortunately, the cyclocopter breaks by the end of his video. It’s still a cool concept, nonetheless.(Image Credit: Nicholas Rehm via YouTube)
THOR: A Mobile Rapid Response Truck That Brings Mobile 5G Access to First RespondersWhen a natural disaster strikes, one of the first things that often fail is the area's communication network. First responders can't use their phones to call or to access the Internet as network access is knocked out.Meet the Tactical Humanitarian Operations Response (aka THOR) vehicle that's recently unveiled by Verizon Frontline. The vehicle is equipped to bring 5G and satellite connectivity to help first responders and military personnel. The truck even has an onboard tethered drone to assist in search and rescue operations.According to the company, "with capabilities ranging from mobile, private 5G UWB to satellite, to commercial and onboard drone options, to the ability to be operated remotely from a tablet, THOR could be considered the Swiss-Army Knife of Verizon Frontline services."#Verizon #rapidresponse #drone #satellite #cellphone #Internet #5G #truck #firstresponder
