China has a new undersea drone, and it looks like a manta ray.
Chinese researchers from a university with strong ties to their military have tested this new drone earlier this month.
The manta ray drone has quite a few fascinating qualities. For one, it is yellow and unmanned. But its most fascinating quality is how it mimics a real manta ray. According to Xinhua, the official state newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, the drone can "flap its wings and slide underwater" just like the actual animal.
China has yet to confirm whether the drone will be used for defense applications. The drone, after all, has the potential to be used to spy on other countries while blending in with aquatic life.
