This Automated Assembly Line Made Of LEGOs Creates Tiny CarsCreativity has no bounds. People can see some LEGO bricks and turn them into different things: small homes, buildings, and other fun things (like an actual model of the Death Star). Some go beyond the expectations of society and just create moving and functioning machinery. What we’re talking about is the work of Daniele Benedettelli, a self-described "automation engineer, freelance LEGO designer, [and] robotics educator." He created an entire car factory that generates small toy cars. His work was done seven years ago but gained a lot of traction now after he reposted it on Instagram. Seeing just a replica toy structure of an entire assembly line is already insane, but the real show is how it really works (because it does). Check out the video above to see the magic unfold!#LEGO #toys #assemblylines #DanieleBenedettelli
LEGO Idea: DNA Double Helix DiscoveryThis DNA Double Helix LEGO with 10,000 supporters is under review, which means it’s close to being produced and sold! The designer, LegoDNA, claims that this 3000-pieces and 60cm high LEGO shares many accurate features with the real deal, having 12 base pairs. Plus, there’s mini lab with minifigures of great scientists! In case you’re curious, the DNA code in the model is ATG GAC AAG TGA, which can be used to find the protein it codes for. These include:* Complementary base pairing of the 4 bases (Adenine (red) with Thymine (green), Guanine (blue) with Guanine (yellow)) (In the middle of the strands)* 2 Hydrogen bonds between Adenine-Thymine pair, and 3 Hydrogen bonds between Cytosine-Guanine pair* 2 Helices wrapped around each other* A Phosphate group (yellow) at each base level* A change of 36° every base turn
Personalize Your Laptop With BRIK’s Build-On Laptop CoverInfuse your personality into your laptop with the Brik Book: Build-On Laptop Cover. With it, you can create custom designs and colorful mosaic art out of BRIK blocks. Or, if you have some spare LEGO blocks at home, you can use them as well, as the laptop cover is compatible with LEGO blocks and most major building sets. And, since your art is made out of blocks, you can always change them anytime. And don’t worry about the blocks falling off. The thin design ensures that no block will fall off as you slide your laptop in and out of bags.It is indeed, according to the company, a product with which “you'll never run out of cool things to build.”Learn more information about this laptop cover over at BRIK’s official website.(Image Credit: Brik Case via YouTube)#LaptopCover #MosaicArt #LEGO #BRIK
Official LEGO Brick Made From Recycled PET PlasticThe LEGO Group has made a new breakthrough for their future releases! They have just introduced their latest prototype: recycled LEGO bricks made from sustainable materials. The new prototype LEGO brick is made from PET plastic from recycled bottles. According to LEGO’s official press release, a single one-liter plastic bottle has enough raw material to make ten 2x4 LEGO bricks.Over the past three years, LEGO’s material scientists and engineers have tested over 250 variations of materials and other plastic formulations to create a prototype brick that is as durable and strong as existing LEGO bricks. While the newest sustainable prototype has been announced, it will take some time before these recycled bricks appear in LEGO product boxes. The company will continue to test, develop and assess these bricks  before they could move to the pilot production phase.Image credit: The LEGO Group #Sustainability #LEGO #Recycling #PET #Plastic #Bricks #LegoBlocks #Toys

Tauntaun Gore in LEGOIn the movie The Empire Strikes Back, our heroes used Tauntauns as beasts of burden on the ice planet Hoth. You will surely remember the scene in which Han Solo cuts a Tauntaun open and sticks his injured friend Luke Skywalker inside to keep him from freezing. This is a scene that doesn't get recreated as often as some others, because it's gory, and from the movie dialogue we know that it smells bad, too. LEGO But Ochre Jelly (Iain Heath) was up for the challenge!

Seinfeld LEGO Set is Real and It's SpectacularSeinfeld fan and LEGO enthusiast Brent Waller couldn't believe that there wasn't a LEGO set dedicated to popular TV show. So, undoubtedly after yelling "Serenity Now!" he set out to rectify that problem and created this LEGO Ideas. And now, thanks to the powers that be at LEGO, the bricks that will become the Seinfeld LEGO set are real, and they are spectacular!#Seinfeld #LEGO #JerrySeinfeld #LEGOIdeas #TVShow
LEGO Microscope: Scientists Built a High-Resolution Microscope out of LEGO Bricks and Salvaged Smartphone Camera LensMicroscopes are expensive, but scientists at Göttingen University, Germany, may have a cheap solution for budding science lovers and DIYers. They might even have all of the necessary ingredients in their toy bins, if they love LEGO!From the Göttingen University:The researchers designed a fully functional, high-resolution microscope with capabilities close to a modern research microscope. Apart from the optics, all parts were from the toy brick system. The team realized that the lenses in modern smartphone cameras, which cost around €4 each, are of such high quality that they can make it possible to resolve even individual cells. The scientists produced instructions for building the microscope as well as a step-by-step tutorial to guide people through the construction process whilst learning about the relevant optical characteristics of a microscope. The researchers measured children’s understanding through questionnaires given to a group of 9-13 year olds. The researchers found that children given the parts and plans to construct the microscope themselves significantly increased their knowledge of microscopy. For this particular study, the researchers, whose day-to-day research focusses on fundamental biophysical processes, benefitted from the input and enthusiasm of their 10-year-old co-author.If you're interested in building one, here's the free instruction.#microscope #LEGO #microscopy
Lightweight LEGO-Like 3D-Printed Alternative to Reinforced Concrete BeamsReinforced concrete beams, a staple in civil engineering, are strong ... but they are also very, very heavy. Thanks to 3D printing, a team of researchers at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) in Spain has developed a lightweight alternative. The 3D printed plastic pieces are snapped together onsite, just like LEGO pieces. Then the structure is concreted into place, with no metal reinforcement required. The resulting beam is just as strong as reinforced concrete beam, but weighs up to 80% less. How did the researchers achieve the required rigidity from plastic? By studying human bones:"It is an alveolar structure, which makes it possible to decrease the amount of plastic used – and therefore its weight – while maintaining structural rigidity," said Jose Ramon Albiol of the Higher Technical School of Construction Engineering of the UPV, "This is what we have transferred to these revolutionary beams, specifically to their profiles. It is a very intelligent natural system and its reproduction in these beams awards them, with the low structural weight, very high mechanical capabilities."via AlphaGalileo#3DPrinting #concrete #CivilEngineering #LEGO #plastic #materialscience
