Oregon State University Receives Guinness World Record for Bipedal RobotOregon State University has a new award to crow about. They just received the Guinness World Record for the fastest 100 meters by a bipedal robot. The ostrich leg style robot ran 100 meters in 24.73 seconds. The robot’s name is Cassie and it was designed by the OSU College of Engineering in Corvallis, Oregon. The robot was then built by Agility Robotics in nearby Albany, Oregon. The machine was created using a $1 million grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Interestingly, Cassie does not have cameras or external sensors. The machine does, however, incorporate artificial intelligence. Cassie has also been able to complete a 5K run and has learned to go up and down stairs. #robot #GuinnessWorldRecord #running #worldrecord
Freediver Held Breath Underwater for 24 Minutes and 37 Seconds to Set World RecordCroatian free diver Budimir Šobat proved his prowess and capabilities in surviving underwater by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest time breath held voluntarily (male)! He held his breath underwater for 24 minutes and 37.36 seconds, which was longer than the previous record by 34 seconds. That difference might look minuscule, but holding your breath for a few more seconds is a difficult feat. Let alone surviving underwater for 24 minutes! Budimir attempted the record in Sisak, Croatia, to promote the city and raise some money for people in need due to earthquakes that hit the area. "We have a huge problem here in Croatia with earthquakes... the situation is serious at the moment in Croatia," Budimir said when applying for the record. "We hope to raise some money for people in need because earthquakes destroy the whole city of Petrinja," he added.Image via Guinness World Records#freediving #GuinnessWorldRecord #worldrecord #underwaterbreathing #freediving #Croatia #BudimirSobat
World's Fastest Lawnmower Reaches the Speed of 143.19 mphThat’s not a race car, that’s a very special lawnmower!Meet Tony Edwards, the man responsible for creating the world’s fastest lawnmower. The mechanical engineer took the Guinness World Record title for his creation, which took two years to build. The Shropshire resident managed to produce a lawnmower that ran at the speed of 143.19 mph, which defeated two previous speedy lawnmowers, Honda’s 116mph lawnmower along with Norway’s lawnmower that ran at 132 mph. Edwards built the whole thing from scratch. According to him, “the front suspension is from a kit car and the rear suspension is from a trike conversion kit." In addition, the engine is from a Suzuki motorbike. The best part about his creation? It cuts grass. Not only is the lawnmower for show, it can also work perfectly fine in someone’s backyard. Image credit: Phil Evans#Lawnmower #GuinnessWorldRecord #FastestLawnmower #Technology #TonyEdwards
Red Bull Stunt Pilot Dario Costa Flew an Airplane Through TWO Tunnels at 150 Miles per HourDario Costa, a professional race and stunt pilot, set a world record by flying through two tunnels at an average speed of 245 kph (152.2 mph) on September 4, 2021. Costa flew in his modified Zivko Edge 540 race plane inside of the dual Catalca Tunnels on Turkey’s Northern Marmara Highway. With over two decades of flying under his belt, the 41-year-old pilot clocked over 5000 hours in the cockpit, with more than half of those hours in high-performance aerobatics.  He became the first Italian to win in the Red Bull Air Race Challenger Class. For years, Costa dreamt of the Tunnel Pass, believed to be his most challenging stunt yet.“Everything seemed to be happening so fast, but when I got out of the first tunnel, the plane started to move to the right because of the crosswinds and in my head, everything slowed down in that moment, I reacted and just focused on getting the plane back on the right path to enter the other tunnel. Then in my mind, everything sped up all over again.” Said Costa.Costa was averaging 245 kph while managing changes in the second tunnel. After the plane got out of the other side, he made a celebratory loop before landing. The flight in the tunnel was recognized with a Guinness World Record for Longest Tunnel Flown through with an Aeroplane at 1,730m. There are four other records set in this exhibition: first Aeroplane flight through a tunnel, longest flight under a solid obstacle, first aeroplane flight through two tunnels and first aeroplane takeoff from a tunnel.#RedBull #WorldRecord #GuinnessWorldRecord #Airplane #Aviation #Tunnel #DarioCosta
A Boy And His Atom: The World's Smallest Movie Made by Moving Single AtomsIBM researchers used scanning tunneling microscope to move individual carbon monoxide molecules to make the world's smallest movie, according to Guinness World Records. The movie is so small that it could only be seen when it's magnified 100 million times.#IBM #atom #GuinnessWorldRecord #microscopy #movie #worldrecordView the full video clip below:
