Heinz Makes Spoon-Shaped French Fries
Gizmodo introduces us to this revolutionary new French fry shape. The Heinz Company’s British division is, for the next week, offering the lucky winners of an online contest French fries that are shaped like spoons. This shape allows users to scoop up more ketchup (and thus encouraging them to buy more Heinz ketchup) with each French fry.Although I prefer sour cream on my fries, I’m intrigued by this design option. Just like scooped tortilla chips, these fries are designed to reflect how eaters actually use these food products, rather than forcing us to adapt to how the products are manufactured. Thanks to innovations like this, it will be easier for us to shove more food into our maws.#FrenchFries #Spoons #HeinzKetchup
Elegant McDonald's Fries Jewelry
Are you lovin’ it? I sure am! If Ronald McDonald strikes it big and wants to put his wealth on ostentatious display, this what he would wear. Marc Deloche, a French jewelry designer of renown, designed this necklace that resembles a package of McDonald’s famous fries. If Google Translate is working properly (sorry, my high school French is too far gone), then this necklace was offered as a prize in a contest at McDonald’s locations in the city of Toulouse. Since it’s assessed at €15,000 ($16, 723 USD), then I’ll guess that’s real gold and diamonds. Presumably real ketchup is still available in packets.-via Toxel#McDonalds #jewelry #frenchfries #necklace #gold #diamond
An Interactive Data Visualization of the Comparative Advantages of Different French Fry Designs
There are standard French fried potato designs commonly available, but they are different. Why? What advantages do certain designs offer that others do not?Chris Williams is a data visualization and interface design expert. That sounds like he makes infographics, but his resume is actually impressive. His interactive visualization of fry designs is thus appropriately sharp. It’s predicated on the ratio of surface area to volume, which he calls the “fried ratio”. If you prefer heavy frying, then you want a lot of surface area, as you might see in a potato chip. If you prize volume, then an actual potato is best. Roughly in the middle is the conventional thin French fry, which balances the two priorities.-via Kottke#Frenchfries #datavisualization
