There have been a lot of illusions released on the Internet. Some bugged their viewers to the point that they might just decide to forget they ever saw them, while others had the best time of their life figuring out the many things that they can see from these works (and how the illusions worked at all).
The image above, however, might be on the toes of “driving people crazy.” But that’s just our opinion of course! You might find this fascinating or downright mind-boggling. Created by Jacques Ninio and Kent Stevens, this image might just look like a bunch of squares, cubes, or even triangles in one blank space.
Actually, on one side of the image, there seems to be a grid of triangles where dark dots also appear. On an initial inspection, these dots may be placed in between uneven spaces. However, these dots actually appear evenly spaced. It’s crazy!
This creation by Ninio and Stevens is an example of an extinction optical illusion. The image renders the cells in our retinas to adjust to the brightness and the light signal in many small sections. “When we look at a Hermann Grid variation like Ninio's extinction illusion, the intersection we look at directly is seen by the fovea, a central depression in the retina where vision is sharpest but which has a small receptive field,” Joseph Foley further explains.
