Where in the US Is There More Livestock Than People?

Erin R. Davis makes maps and other data visualizations that explain our world. Recently, she gathered statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to show which counties in the 48 contiguous states have more livestock animals than people and which animals were present.

The main map shows cows, chickens, and pigs. But she goes into a lot more detail, providing maps for, specifically, cattle, turkeys, chickens, goats, pigs, and sheep. If you live in the South, then I have bad news for you about the upcoming chicken uprising.

The goats map is notable. It appears that goat herding occurs primarily in the Big Bend area of Texas.
