Literally making your way inside a video game sounds too good to be true, but it’s not and the technology for it is already here for us to enjoy.
Here we have the DreamCube brand and technology, developed by Local Projects along with Harves Global Entertainment and the MTM collective. It’s a 256-square-foot virtual reality room complete with advanced motion-tracking cameras and projection mapping hardware for a truly realistic gaming experience.
With the DreamCube, the developers want to prevent us from using gaming as an excuse to isolate ourselves from others. By design, the virtual reality room is only three-sided. The empty back wall keeps us connected with our friends and the real world.
“It’s kind of like a mixture of Topgolf, bowling, and karaoke,” says Jake Barton, a co-owner of DreamCube. “We’re also using a lot of VR conventions, but in a way that’s communal but not isolating. It’s a big investment into physical space, and a [mixed reality] platform that doesn’t involve cutting your senses off.”
So far, the DreamCube brand has struck a deal with the NBA and also with the Manchester United soccer club. It’s only a matter of time until it can create more games for gamers to enjoy.
