Jairus Rhoades, 17-year-old from Hawaii, Took the Top Prize Aloha International Piano Festival With a 12-Minute Performance of Rachmaninoff

Piano prodigy Jairus Rhoades wowed musicians and judges at the Aloha International Piano Festival with his twelve-minute performance of Rachmaninoff. His act won the top prize for the young artist bracket of the competition.

The 17-year-old competed against older pianists, including musicians who train at Juilliard and the New England Conservatory of Music. As to why Rhoades was placed in a higher category, the young pianist already won the high school division, so he had no choice but to compete with conservatory students. With his stunning performance, it seems that neither age nor school affiliation mattered at all!
