This Woman Is Dressed as the Town of Whittier, Alaska
The town of Whittier, Alaska, has an unusual geography. It consists mostly of one building erected in 1957 that was originally slated to be a barracks and headquarters for a major US Army facility. The Army cancelled that project. That building, which is formally named Begrich Towers, is now where almost all of the 272 residents live and conduct their business. They have, effectively, an indoor lifestyle.Genevie Mina, an Alaska politician, dressed as that building for this Halloween.#Halloweencostume #building
Rolligon: The Tire that can Roll over Practically any Obstacle
This has got to be one of the weirdest tires ever made!Meet the "Rolligon," a large, low pressure tire invented by William Albee. In 1950, the California man went on a fishing trip to Alaska where he noticed an Inuit fisherman moved a heavy wooden boat up a muddy bank using what looked like balloons. It turned out that the rolling balloon was actually inflated seal skins. When he returned back home, Albee used a combination of fabric and rubber to create a low pressure tire that was perfect for use in the frozen tundra of Alaska.#tire #rolligon #Alaska #truck #balloon
