It sure looks like an astronomical photo of the planet Jupiter, but it’s not. Let’s take a step back.
This is a bodypainting by Filippo Ioco, an Italian artist who paints on both canvases and human bodies. He’s become especially famous for his bodypaintings in which he disguises forms and messages on models.
In this image, the goddess figure that forms the universe has been covered with black paint and speckled with the light of stars. Her pregnant belly offers the ideal form for a spherical planet. This is one of a series of bodypaintings which make use of pregnant women to show the mystery of the unborn child, Venus, Neptune, Uranus, Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, Mars, the Sun, Earth’s moon, and the Earth itself.
