Sharpest Image of Living Bacteria Show Complex Patches in Their Outer Membranes that May Contribute to Antibiotics Resistance

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA have published a study recently this week. Along with the paper are the sharpest images ever of living bacteria. These photographs might be some of the most important photos in bacteriology.

Thanks to these images, we might now have answers to where the strong and weak spots of the bacteria's protective layers are found. We now also know what their outer membrane is made out of. The question of how bacteria can allow nutrients while denying toxins from entering is also answered.
