Javier Pérez, an artist from Ecuador, has a consistent approach to his playful illustrations of everyday objects and people: he mixes the real and the imaginary and photographs the results. His most recent body of work uses corrugated cardboard. As he draws people and animals, Pérez peels the top layer of the cardboard to add visual textures to his images. To add to the whimsy, he animates the process with stop-motion and puts the results online.
You can follow Pérez’s work on Instagram, which is probably the best way to view the animated effects. I’m especially taken with his pet drawings.
