When it’s time to shut down a wind turbine, what are you going to do with the blades? The massive fiberglass structures aren’t biodegradable. But they are still useful. My Modern Met introduces us to the Re-Wind Network, an organization of academics from around the world that are seeking practical uses for discarded wind turbines.
One immediate solution is to slice up the blades and turn them into bike racks. This one in Denmark protects bicycles from the wind and rain. Other projects in development include footbridges, skate parks, and roofs for bus stops and “glamping pods.”
No, really, glamping pods. Check out p. 8. If you’re going to glamp, you might as well so it for the environment.
