Kokea Kwok's Humanized Foods

Kokea Kwok, a student at the Glasglow School of Art, revealed her series titled “Comfort Food” at the show for graduating students. It explores the relationship between humans and our food, especially our ignorance of its origin.

What, Kwok asks, do we really know about our food? Where did it come from? How did it arrive at our table? What processes transformed its presumably natural origins into the unnatural forms before us?

The food comforts us. It makes us feel safe, like a warm bed on a cold night. Familiar, easy foods—what are called comfort foods—remind us of our past, especially of our families and friends. We choose them because they are comforting, not because they are natural.
