Even with the end of the pandemic, this is a tough time for the airline industry. Before the lockdowns, aircraft designers were already thinking about ways of fitting more human flesh inside the fuselages of airliners. Now seating designer Alejandro Núñez Vicente offers fresh, out-of-the-shoebox thinking with double-decker seating.
His solution to the problem of human happiness is simple: stack people on top of each other. Pictured here is a smiling human trapped inside his new Chaise Lounge Airplane Seat. CNN reports that it makes use of the otherwise wasted vertical area above the heads of passengers in traditional seating arrangements. There's no longer an overhead storage area. Now passengers must store their baggage under the seats.
