In short: The happiest country in the world in 2021 is Finland. The least happy is Afghanistan. In North America, Canada is happier than the United States.

Regional details below:

North and Central America Happiness Rank - The happiest country in North and Central America, including the Caribbean is Canada, followed by Costa Rica and then the United States. The least happy country is Haiti, which had been hit hard by natural disasters, political corruption, gang violence and the pandemic.

South America Happiness Rank - With the largest middle class in South America, Uruguay came in first in the happiness scale. Venezuela is the least happy, as falling oil prices and COVID-19 pandemic created economic crises for the country.

Europe Happiness Rank - Finland consistently ranked as the happiest country in Europe (and the world) and this year is no different. The least happy country is Ukraine, which continued to see political conflict and economic crises.

Middle East and Central Asia Happiness Rank - Israel came first as the happiest country in the Middle East, and Afghanistan - to no one's surprise - came in last as political uncertainty and economic hardship continued.

East Asia and Oceania Happiness Rank - Taiwan is ranked as the most happy country in Asia, whereas India is the least happy. In Oceania, New Zealand bested Australia to be the happiest country there.

Africa Happiness Rank - Despite economic recessions during the pandemic, Mauritius is ranked as the happiest country in Africa. The least happy is Zimbabwe, which is best by economic and political crises.
