Ephemeral Leaf Art from a High School Teacher in Japan

Spoon & Tamago introduces us to Hirotaka Hamasaki, a high school teacher and artist in Nara, Japan. He works extensively with chalkboard art, creating amazingly detailed and colorful recreations of cartoon characters and celebrities.

But today, I’ll focus on his ephemeral art made with leaves each fall for the past ten years. He gathers, sorts, and arranges them into collages that drift away with the wind.

One can almost see the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro stroll up to this bus stop as the wind makes the leaves quiver.
