The first wireless charging road system in America will be built in Detroit, Michigan. An announcement from the state further detailed that the Michigan Department of Transportation awarded the project to Electreon, an electric vehicle solutions firm.
The company will construct a one-mile road open to the public that can charge battery-powered vehicles as they traverse through the roads in real-time. There is no specific location chosen for the construction, but this special road will be built somewhere in Detroit. The project aims to boost the usage of electric vehicles and to lower consumer costs. According to Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the wireless in-road charging system “is the next piece to the puzzle for sustainability.”
