Some artists made artwork out of rock and stones so they’d last forever, but artist KP Rohit of Kerala, India, made his ephemeral stone art last just for seconds.
“I have done many paintings before. But it was during lockdown that I started trying portraits using stones,” Rohit said to Indian wire service ANI, “I have done many such stone art, but the last one of [indian actor Mohanlal] was noticed by all.”
First, Rohit arranged small rocks on a board to create his portraits. Then, he raised the board to send the stones flying in the air - while the rocks were in the air, the portrait could be seen for a fraction of a second. A slow-motion video capture of Rohit’s flipping the stones airborne is the only thing that remains of his temporary art.
