A team of researchers composed of Germans and Egyptians has unearthed a pair of limestone sphinxes at the ancient Egyptian temple of Amenhotep III in western Luxor, Egypt. The sphinxes measure around 26 feet long and could have depicted the pharaoh.
Other significant ancient artifacts were also at the site, like three nearly intact statues of the goddess Sekhmet (the protector of the pharaohs).
Amenhotep III is also known as Amenhotep the Magnificent, and Egypt prospered greatly during his reign.
(On an unrelated note, I’m happy no mummies that can turn back to life were disturbed during the excavation).
