Archaeologists Discover Ancient Papyrus With Spells From The Book of the Dead

Now, this is quite a find!

Archaeologists have found an ancient papyrus in Egypt’s Saqqara region. The UNESCO World Heritage site is a vast necropolis that is home to pyramids, animal burial sites, and ancient Coptic Christian monasteries. From this description alone, experts would have dug up something interesting at some point.

But this 16-meter-long ancient papyrus is quite a cut about the rest, mostly because of its contents. The parchment contains texts from the Pharaonic Book of the Dead, a funerary text from ancient Egypt that contains declarations and spells to aid the deceased in their afterlife. It was found in one of the 250 caskets at the site.

Dubbed the “Waziri Papyrus,” the ancient texts will be presented at the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum!
