Most everyday-use prosthetic legs are insufficiently waterproof to be used in the shower and don’t allow for easy access to the residual limb for cleaning. There are shower limbs, but they’re rather expensive. Hopping about on one leg is a risky and sometimes physically infeasible option. So how are people without legs supposed to shower?
Harry Teng, an industrial designer in Seattle, has an answer. His Lytra design went through a long evolution to reach its current form. It’s inexpensive to manufacture, provides access to wash and dry the residual limb, and has a flexible sole to grip the slick floor of a wet shower.
