14-Year-Old Katelyn Povolny of Oregon Raised Nearly $19,000 to Build A Library in Gulu, Uganda

This girl is a hero.

Not everyone has access to the wonders of the Internet, let alone access to technology. In times where one has a need for information yet lacks the modern resources for information seeking, a traditional information hub such as a library could really be of great use to them. Katelyn Povolny spent a year raising money to build a library in Gulu, Uganda. The 14-year-old has managed to raise $19,000 for her project.

The 9th grader decided to work with Elephante Commons, a nonprofit dedicated to helping the people of Gulu recover from many years of war. The library is estimated to house about 10,000 books.
