100-Year-Old Weight Lifting Grandma from Florida Sets World Record for Oldest Competitive Powerlifter

Edith Murway-Traina likes to bench press. Being a hundred years old great, great grandmother, one would think that this is something she’s always done, but that’s not the case. In fact, she never even picked up a barbell until she was 91-years-old.

“And here I was lifting weights pretending I was Charles Atlas,” said Edith. “And I thought it’s not so bad, maybe I can do this again another time so I did.”

“I like to do things that people think I can’t do,” said Edith, so even when there are times when she doesn’t feel like coming to the gym or feels tired, she perseveres. Currently, she trains three days a week and is a competitive powerlifter. Because of all that she’s been doing, the Guinness World Records recognized her as the world’s oldest competitive powerlifter.
